Lisgaras and Scharfman Publish in Alzheimer’s & Dementia
Research conducted by Helen Scharfman and Christos Lisgaras at the CDR challenges and refines the conventional cholinergic hypothesis—a theory that has long dominated the field by proposing that cholinergic signaling uniformly declines in both Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Down syndrome (DS). Their new study titled “The cholinergic system exerts opposing effects on memory at different stages of disease progression in Alzheimer’s and Down syndrome model systems.”
